About Me
My name is Carrie Ann Garippa. I was a research technician in a neurobiology lab for 8 years before discovering my true passion lie in teaching. I continued to work while pursuing my MA and teacher certification at Lehigh University and am currently completing my intern teaching at Saucon Valley High School.
The time in the classroom has assured me that I am on the best path for my future. The student discovery process of an inquiry based lessons is so exciting to watch. I enjoy bringing my laboratory skills and research knowledge into the classroom where I can inspire future scientists to wonder and dream about the paths that are in front of them.
I am currently working on an action research project based on using a student's mobile devices as study aids to improve basic recall performance. The students are discovering ways to use the technology in an appropriate way, giving usefulness in education to a previous "toy". The use of technology in the classroom is a solid investment in making creative thinkers as it relates to studying.
I am excited to begin teaching full time and I hope this portfolio provides you with some insight about my classroom.
Please feel free to browse the sections of this e-portfolio. Below you will find downloadable pdf files of my current resume as well as my praxis I and II test scores. I have also uploaded for your review artifacts in the following categories: planning and preparation, classroom environment, instructional delivery and professionalism. These are examples of tools and lessons used during instruction as well as other materials produced during my time in the classroom as an intern. Please contact me with any questions or if you would like further materials or background concerning these artifacts.
Thank you for taking the time to view my profile.

Praxis Scores RSS
Until recently, my scores were posted for public view. After realizing my scores contain personal information, particularly my social secuity number, I decided to remove the actual score report. I will happily forward a copy to any potential employers upon request. Thank you.

Category I: Planning and Preparation: Video Lab Demonstration
Category I: Planning and Preparation: Video Lab DemonstrationThe students are able to better replicate laboratory exercises if first shown a demonstration. On days when I had several "stations" running at the same time, it was not possible for me to keep replicating the demonstration with each rotation to the activity station. Instead I created a video available to the students on Youtube. The students were able to watch it immediately before recreating the lab activity. If it is unable to load please visit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSUtdzg5ErM
Category I: Planning and Preparation: Vocabulary modifications for MS Tracks A,B and C
Category I: Planning and Preparation: Vocabulary modifications for MS Tracks A,B and CThe attached lesson has accomodations for students in all three tracks of a middle school science classroom.
Category I: Planning and Preparation: Technology Driven Inquiry Lesson
Category I: Planning and Preparation: Technology Driven Inquiry LessonThe following lesson was a self-guided block activity that used different technologies to explore the topic of photosynthesis in a mixed level high school biology classroom. The lesson consisted of five independent stations where students were instructed to work either individually or in groups of varying sizes.
The technology included: iPad video science lessons, Wiki spaces, Podcasting, Virtual laboratories and online tutorials.
Category II: Classroom Environment: Activity Station Learning Exercise
Category II: Classroom Environment: Activity Station Learning ExerciseThe lesson demonstrates a class period spent transitioning between group work and visits to an activity extensions center. The lesson was successful and the students remained engaged due to their desire to complete the activities and their interest in the topic.
Category II: Classroom Environment: Mentor Evaluation
Category II: Classroom Environment: Mentor EvaluationI have attached observations made by one of my mentor teachers and one intern supervisor regarding my rapport with the students.
Category III: Instructional Delivery: Laboratory Activity
Category III: Instructional Delivery: Laboratory ActivityThe following lesson plan proveds a detailed laboratory procedure. The lab was meant to inspire inquiry and encourage discovery. The students had several days of notes and group work on cell organelles prior to the lab exercise and it was used as a review and application of knowledge.
Category III: Instructional Delivery: Variety in typical block scheduled class
Category III: Instructional Delivery: Variety in typical block scheduled classAttached is a lesson plan for a mixed level, high school lab biology class. The lesson introduces a new topic in the unit: the nature of matter. In order to limit the amount of lecture during block scheduling, activities and demonstrations are built into the lesson. In addition, a group collaborative project plan is added to the end of the lesson - student run demonstration. The students had time to work on the project during classtime for the remainder of the week and presented their demonstration according to the rubric provided, also attached as a separate file.
Category IV: Professionalism: Communication home
Category IV: Professionalism: Communication homeAttached is a letter I used to communicate with the families concerning the use of video in the classroom. Prior to sending it home, it was approved by both my mentor teacher and the school principal.
Category IV: Professionalism: Evaluating test scores, Teacher in service documentation
Category IV: Professionalism: Evaluating test scores, Teacher in service documentationI attended an inservice during my student teaching experience designed to use data analysis to track student performance. Attached is a form from the morning session that was used to evaluate classroom strengths and areas of educational concern.
